What animals am I likely to see on a 5 day Galápagos cruise?

The Islands are home to so many iconic species that a 5 day Galápagos cruise is really the minimum length we would recommend in order to experience some of the most unique fauna in the world. While what you can see is different for every island, and changes at different times of the year, there are some creatures you will be guaranteed to meet on a 5 day Galápagos adventure:

Galápagos sea lions - friendly, funny, and loud! If you are lucky you may even be joined by a few of them while you snorkel!

Galápagos giant tortoise - perhaps the Island's most iconic species, every 5 day Galápagos cruise features a visit to either a reserve or a breeding station that is preserving these remarkable creatures.

Galápagos marine iguana - when you are on one of our 5 day Galápagos cruise's you will certainly see marine iguana, both basking on the rocks and swimming out to sea in order to feed. A memorable sight!

Darwin's Finches - not the most spectacular creatures to look at, certainly, but as the inspiration for Charles Darwin's groundbreaking work on evolution, to see these little birds in the flesh is definitely a highlight of a 5 day Galápagos cruise, particularly when they are still evolving to this day.

What are the different classes available for a 5 day Galapagos cruise?

For many travelers, the 5 day Galápagos cruise is the perfect length to get a real flavor of the islands, particularly as part of a longer South American trip. The great news is that there are 5 day Galápagos cruises to suit every wallet and taste. Here are just a few examples:

5 day luxury Galápagos cruise - this is a real 5 star cruise experience! Exquisite accommodation, wonderful cuisine, remarkable service, and delightful features like open-air jacuzzis, private balconies, and spacious suites and staterooms are the hallmarks of a luxury 5 day Galápagos cruise.

5 day mid-range Galápagos cruise - if you're not looking for a 5 star Galápagos cruise, but you don't want to sacrifice comfort and some touches of luxury, a mid-range 5 day Galápagos cruise is the perfect balance between value and style. There are many ships available in this class and a whole host of itineraries to choose from.

What is a typical day like on a 5 day Galapagos cruise?

By far the highlight of every day will be the excursions. On a typical 5 day Galápagos cruise you will use the ship's "panga" - an inflatable tender that will whisk you to shore. Every landing you will be accompanied by your expert Naturalist guide (all Galapatours guides on our 5 day Galápagos cruises are English-speaking). They will make sure you are aware of the unique creatures and geological marvels that every island will show you. There's really no experience quite like walking through some of the most unspoilt and unique habitat left in the world and being able to approach to within a few feet of some of the world's rarest creatures!

On a 5 day Galápagos cruise you will enjoy at least one daily excursion - and often 2 or more. These could be walks on shore, kayaking, snorkeling, or using the panga to explore the beaches or the Galápagos mangrove shallows. You will also get the chance to land on beaches and simply soak up the atmosphere and the equatorial sun!

The evenings often bring clear skies, and stargazing from the sun deck of your ship is an amazing experience. On our 5 day Galápagos cruises there is a nightly briefing from your naturalist guide with presentations about the history, the geology and species of Galápagos.

Then, of course, there's plenty of time to relax over a stunning evening meal with your like-minded fellow guests before retiring to your cabin to sleep while the boat makes its way to the next wonder of the Galápagos!
