Royal Galapagos began in 2012 as an Ecuadorian boat operator. Its focus is small expedition yachts: locally operated ships, Ecuadorian crews and naturalist-led days ashore under Galapagos National Park rules. The company also supports conservation organizations, while its long experience managing several vessels gives travelers a useful range of ship styles under one operator.
Royal Galapagos currently presents seven cruise yachts: Horizon, Infinity, Sea Star, Natural Paradise, Grand Majestic, Angel and Calipso. Royal places Horizon, Infinity, Sea Star, Natural Paradise and Grand Majestic in its luxury collection, with Angel and Calipso in its first-class collection. Infinity accommodates 20 guests, while the other six carry 16. Horizon is the fleet's distinctive trimaran; Calipso offers both naturalist and diving itineraries. Those differences are useful starting points, but categories alone do not decide which ship is right for you.
