What we love about the La Pinta
Small guide groups — more choice and attention at each visitor site.
Interconnecting cabins — family travel without the squeeze.
Medical officer and glass-bottom boat — reassurance and inclusive exploration.

La Pinta is the ship we would put on the shortlist when the islands matter most, but a tiny 16-guest yacht feels too limiting. With 48 guests, she has the space for a proper expedition operation: four naturalist guides, a medical officer on every departure, several activity choices at the same visitor site and enough room to decompress between landings. The scale works because excursion groups are kept to around 12 guests per guide, so the experience ashore can still feel focused and personal.
What makes La Pinta especially useful is choice. Depending on the site and conditions, the day can combine hiking, snorkelling, kayaking or a glass-bottom-boat excursion rather than forcing everyone into the same activity. Her current five-, seven- and nine-day programmes cover very different parts of the archipelago: Española's albatross country and Genovesa's seabirds, penguin waters around Bartolomé, the giant tortoises of Santa Cruz and the younger volcanic landscapes of the west. We can help you compare the routes, because on La Pinta the itinerary matters at least as much as the ship.
We particularly recommend La Pinta to active couples, multigenerational families and friends who want a polished base for serious Galapagos days. The cabins are spacious by expedition-yacht standards and have sea-facing windows; eight Luxury Staterooms form four interconnecting pairs, while Luxury Plus cabins add room for a child on a sofa bed. This is not the ship for private balconies or a tiny-yacht social scene. It is, however, one of the most practical ways to combine active wildlife exploration with space, medical reassurance and genuine family flexibility. Visitor sites and activities remain subject to National Park and operating conditions.

Meals on La Pinta are organised around expedition days rather than formal cruise ritual: breakfast before the first landing, lunch back on board and dinner after the evening briefing. There is a dedicated dining room as well as alfresco space on the Sun Deck, so the setting can change with the day's schedule and weather. We like that this gives families and active travellers a proper place to regroup without turning dinner into a formal occasion. Meals and soft drinks are included; tell us about dietary requirements before departure so the operator can confirm and prepare what is possible.
La Pinta operates within the Galapagos National Park's controlled system of routes, visitor sites and guide-led excursions. Metropolitan Touring also documents water desalination and treatment, waste-reduction and recycling practices, energy-efficiency measures and biodegradable cabin toiletries for the vessel. These are practical steps that reduce pressure on a remote archipelago, but they do not make cruising impact-free; the operator reports La Pinta's operational emissions separately. We also value the small excursion groups and glass-bottom boat, which support close supervision and let non-swimmers observe marine life without entering the water.
