What we love about the Galapagos Legend

Family-ready space — mixed generations can enjoy one expedition in different ways.

Glass-bottom exploration — marine life stays accessible without snorkelling.

Four route families — choose Genovesa, Española or the volcanic west.

Galapagos Legend Cruise

Galapagos Legend is one of our strongest recommendations for families and mixed-generation groups who want genuine expedition days without asking every traveller to enjoy the islands in exactly the same way. With space for up to 100 guests, she is not the intimate yacht choice—and that is precisely why she works so well for this audience. After an early panga ride, a shore walk or a snorkel, broad decks, a pool, Jacuzzis, lecture spaces and a kids' corner give different generations room to reset without losing the sociable atmosphere.

The route matters just as much as the ship. Four itinerary families let you choose between the seabird colonies of Genovesa, Española and Gardner Bay, the younger volcanic landscapes of Isabela and Fernandina, or a contrasting eastern and southern mix; paired programmes create longer eight-day journeys. Excursion and activity groups are staggered, so the experience on shore is more focused than the headline guest capacity might suggest. Guided walks, pangas, kayaking and snorkelling shape the days, always subject to National Park and operational conditions.

What we particularly value is the choice Galapagos Legend gives a mixed group. The glass-bottom boat keeps the marine world accessible to travellers who do not snorkel or prefer to stay dry, while active companions can still get into the water. Cabins range from compact practical categories to more spacious suites with balconies, without making the ship feel like a conventional resort. Book her if facilities, family flexibility and route choice matter more than a hushed 16-guest atmosphere. If you want the same tiny group at every meal and the quietest possible evenings, we would compare her with a smaller yacht.

Food & Drinks on board the Galapagos Legend

Meals on Galapagos Legend follow the rhythm of an active expedition day: breakfast before the first outing, lunch when guests return from a landing or snorkel, and dinner with time to compare what everyone saw. The operator describes Ecuadorian and international cooking, including local ingredients, vegetarian choices and lighter, low-fat options, served in the indoor restaurant or al fresco when the programme and conditions allow. We like that flexibility on a family-oriented ship, but dietary requirements should still be shared with us in advance so the onboard team can confirm and prepare what is reasonably possible.

Sustainable Tourism

The operator states that Galapagos Legend provides purified-water refill stations, reusable recycled-aluminium bottles and biodegradable toiletries. These are practical measures: they reduce single-use plastic and limit some of the everyday waste created during a cruise, although they do not make a 100-guest ship impact-free. The expedition also operates within the Galapagos National Park's fixed itineraries, controlled visitor sites and naturalist-guide rules, which govern where groups land and how wildlife encounters are managed. We prefer these specific, verifiable practices to a broad green label.

This is one of the best trips I have ever taken. I was warried the transportation from Quito to Baltra as there was no one in Quito would contact me from the trip provider and I was on my own, however everything went seamlessly according the trip itinerary, I got the airplane tickets and the ship boarding card at the airport where the people from Galapagos Legend was waiting for me, after landing at the Baltra everything was taken care by the ship staffs. The trip itself is fantastic and exceeded my expectations, most of the stops were attracting and unique, the landscape is beautiful and the animals were lovely, the guides were knowledgeable, the ship staffs were friendly, and the food was nice.

They say that the Galapagos is a land that time forgot. I would add to that the Galapagos is a land that you will never forget! Our ship, the Legend, was a comfortable ship with amenities suited for this type of tour. Our licensed guides were incredibly knowledgeable! We were kept busy at each island we visited, including nature hikes where we were made aware of all of the flora and fauna found there and had numerous opportunities for snorkeling. The highlight was being able to snorkel in waters that teemed with wildlife, including sharks, sea lions, manta rays, penguins, and many species of fish. Oh, and the food and the service: top notch!

Loved the Legend Me and my parents recently just came back from Galapagos Island. We booked 4-Day/3-Night Legend Cruise tour through Galapatours. Our travel specialist Thomas is very helpful and quick for replying our emails. Thomas answered all of our questions and concerns before we book our tour through Galapatours. He also get us a great deal by upgrading our cruise cabin. The Legend Cruise itself is great. It's recent renovated cruise. All the staffs and guides on the cruise are so friendly and professional. The itinerary is full and well planned. Definitely worth the money.

Die Legend ist super! Meine Eltern und ich waren noch vor kurzen auf der Legend, eine 4 Tages Tour hatten wir gebucht. Der Thomas von Galapatours war sehr hilfsbereit und antwortete schnell auf Mails. Thomas beantwortete all unsere Fragen bevor wir buchten.

Santa Cruz II Galapagos Cruise

Santa Cruz II

What we like about Santa Cruz II is that she solves a very specific Galápagos dilemma: you can have the space and reassurance of a 90-guest expedition ship without spending your island days in a crowd. The operator carries four naturalist guides and says outing groups average around 12 guests, so the experience ashore can still feel focused and personal. That is the detail we would look at—not simply the number of guests—when choosing her. Her three circuits reach far beyond Santa Cruz Island. Depending on the departure, you can follow waved albatrosses and sea lions around Española and San Cristóbal, look for red-footed boobies on Genovesa, or travel west to the penguins, marine iguanas and flightless cormorants of Isabela and Fernandina. At most visitor sites you can choose among walks, snorkeling, kayaking, paddleboarding, panga rides and a glass-bottom boat, which is especially useful when a family or group does not want to do exactly the same activity. Back on board, five decks give you genuine room to reset between early starts and wet landings: broad observation areas, two outdoor hot tubs, a science corner, library, gym and a 24-hour medical officer. The 43 Explorer cabins are compact rather than lavish, but they have large exterior windows and many interconnect; two dedicated family cabins sleep two adults and a child under 12, while two Voyager cabins give solo travelers their own space. We recommend Santa Cruz II when you want a serious, well-organized wildlife expedition with more comfort and flexibility than a tiny yacht. Choose a 16-guest vessel instead if instant everyone-knows-everyone intimacy is central to the dream. Recent guests consistently praise the guides and crew; a few also say the dining room can feel busy or that motion is noticeable, so this is a ship to choose for her expedition depth and range of options—not because she pretends to be small.

Isabela II Galapagos Cruise
Premium

Isabela II

Isabela II is the kind of Galápagos yacht we like for travelers who want days that feel full, guided and close to nature, while still having room to breathe on board. With only 20 cabins for up to 40 guests, she sits in a sweet spot between the very small yachts and the larger expedition ships. The guiding and activity setup is a real strength: naturalist-led shore walks, snorkeling, kayaking, paddleboarding, panga outings and a glass-bottom boat for guests who prefer to watch the underwater world without getting wet. Back on board, the hot tub, lounge, bar, library, gym, boutique and open-air deck spaces make the rhythm feel easy after active landings. The cabins are bright and practical rather than showy, with Classic, Classic Family, Standard Single and Owner's Cabin options. That makes Isabela II especially useful for couples, families and solo travelers who want a comfortable, well-run Galápagos cruise without losing the small-ship feeling. Choose her for strong guiding, varied activities and a polished expedition routine. If your dream is an ultra-modern yacht with private balconies throughout, or the quietest possible boat with only a handful of guests, our specialists can compare her carefully with more fitting alternatives.
