What animals am I likely to see on a 5 day Galápagos cruise?

The Islands are home to so many iconic species that a 5 day Galápagos cruise is really the minimum length we would recommend in order to experience some of the most unique fauna in the world. While what you can see is different for every island, and changes at different times of the year, there are some creatures you will be guaranteed to meet on a 5 day Galápagos adventure:

Galápagos sea lions - friendly, funny, and loud! If you are lucky you may even be joined by a few of them while you snorkel!

Galápagos giant tortoise - perhaps the Island's most iconic species, every 5 day Galápagos cruise features a visit to either a reserve or a breeding station that is preserving these remarkable creatures.

Galápagos marine iguana - when you are on one of our 5 day Galápagos cruise's you will certainly see marine iguana, both basking on the rocks and swimming out to sea in order to feed. A memorable sight!

Darwin's Finches - not the most spectacular creatures to look at, certainly, but as the inspiration for Charles Darwin's groundbreaking work on evolution, to see these little birds in the flesh is definitely a highlight of a 5 day Galápagos cruise, particularly when they are still evolving to this day.

What our customers say about their adventure

What an unforgettable trip!
Our guide, Raúl, was extremely knowledgeable about all the birds, animals and history of the islands. Although I did not participate in snorkeling, others did and got a lot of great underwater pictures. I saw the giant tortoise, blue footed and red footed boobies, volcanic formations and other animals only found on the islands. My 7 days - 6 nights was just a perfect amount of time.

Galapatours picked the perfect route for us
The best vacation I've ever had. Everything was so well coordinated and the crew members did an amazing job. My partner and I had the most wonderful first vacation experience together. Luis, our host on the boat, was extremely energetic and very entertaining. The tour guides, Victor and Enrique, were also fabulous. It was amazing how much experience they had on the history and science behind Galápagos.

We had a lot of fun on the Nemo III! The group and the pace of the trip were perfect for our young family. The crew was great and helped keep the trip interesting and exciting for our kids. Our guide kept the hikes engaging for our entire family and make the trip a truly memorable event for everyone.

What is a typical day like on a 5 day Galapagos cruise?

By far the highlight of every day will be the excursions. On a typical 5 day Galápagos cruise you will use the ship's "panga" - an inflatable tender that will whisk you to shore. Every landing you will be accompanied by your expert Naturalist guide (all Galapatours guides on our 5 day Galápagos cruises are English-speaking). They will make sure you are aware of the unique creatures and geological marvels that every island will show you. There's really no experience quite like walking through some of the most unspoilt and unique habitat left in the world and being able to approach to within a few feet of some of the world's rarest creatures!

On a 5 day Galápagos cruise you will enjoy at least one daily excursion - and often 2 or more. These could be walks on shore, kayaking, snorkeling, or using the panga to explore the beaches or the Galápagos mangrove shallows. You will also get the chance to land on beaches and simply soak up the atmosphere and the equatorial sun!

The evenings often bring clear skies, and stargazing from the sun deck of your ship is an amazing experience. On our 5 day Galápagos cruises there is a nightly briefing from your naturalist guide with presentations about the history, the geology and species of Galápagos.

Then, of course, there's plenty of time to relax over a stunning evening meal with your like-minded fellow guests before retiring to your cabin to sleep while the boat makes its way to the next wonder of the Galápagos!
